CALUYA, Antique – Emergency travel to mainland Antique is again faster and more convenient.

The local government unit here has again made available for public use its M/B Tatus sea vessel after a much needed rehabilitation. It has been fitted with a new motor.

Caluya is an island municipality in the northern part of Antique between the islands of Mindoro and Panay. It is approximately 36 kilometers northwest of Panay Island where its nearest Antique towns are Libertad and Pandan.

Caluya is actually a group of islands. It is composed of the three big islands of Caluya, Sibay and Semirara and the islets of Liwagaw, Panagatan I, II and III, Sibato, Sibolo, and Nagubat

Mayor Rigil Kent Lim and Reverend Father Ryan Melocotones led the inauguration and blessing of M/B Tatus.

The local government has hired a boat captain and crew to operate M/B Tatus so that Caluyanons availing themselves of the boat’s service going mainland for emergency cases need not pay anymore.

M/B Tatus as an emergency travel vessel was a brainchild of Lim’s father, former mayor Reynante Lim Sr.

“Handa na muli ang MB Tatus magserbisyo sa ating mga Caluyanhons,” declared Mayor Lim.

He cited the Municipal General Services Office and Municipal Tourism Office for handling the vessel’s rehabilitation.

According to the 2020 census, Caluya has a population of 38,908 people, making it the sixth most populous municipality in Antique./PN
