Capiz barangay declared drug-cleared

CAPIZ – Barangay Timpas in Panitan town in this province has been officially declared drug-cleared.

Barangay Captain Teody Degones shared that their journey toward achieving this status began during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, when the national government launched a more intensified campaign against illegal drugs.

In response, Barangay Timpas strengthened its anti-drug efforts through the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC), with Degones working closely with residents and the police to support the government’s crackdown on illegal drugs.

To maintain their drug-cleared status, Degones underscored the importance of sustained community efforts, including anti-drug seminars, community outreach, and youth engagement programs aimed at preventing the resurgence of illegal drug activities.

He also expressed hope that Barangay Timpas would serve as a model for other barangays in Capiz and the rest of Western Visayas, proving that with cooperation, determination, and strong leadership, achieving a drug-cleared community is possible.

Barangay Timpas and three other barangays in Western Visayas – Barangay Bayuyan, Estancia, Iloilo; and Barangay Yulo Drive, Arevalo and Barangay Katilingban, Molo in Iloilo City – were declared drug-cleared during the 56th Regional Oversight Committee Meeting on the Barangay Drug-Clearing Program spearheaded by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 (PDEA-6) in Iloilo City, on July 3./PN
