Capiz facility for cacao processing launched

ROXAS City – A shared service facility (SSF) for cacao processing was launched on June 20 in Barangay Cogon, Panit-an, Capiz.

This SSF project aims to provide technological upgrades for local processors and micro, small and medium enterprises in Capiz to increase their production capacity, product quality and market competitiveness in the cacao industry.

Cacao farmers in Capiz are given the opportunity to add value to their cacao products and increase their income by producing competitive chocolate-based products that will fetch higher prices in the market, said Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Capiz director Ken Queenie Cunada.

This will also open job opportunities for local cacao farmers, Cunada added.

Dr. Rose Marie Conlu, president of the Capiz Cacao Industry Association (CCIA), thanked DTI and other partner government agencies for providing P2.9-million worth of machinery for an industrial type of operations (the provincial government of Capiz, Department of Agriculture and Department of Science and Technology).
