Capiz HFMD cases rise to 76

CAPIZ – As a proactive response to the increasing cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in Capiz province, active case finding and an epidemiological investigation were conducted.

According to Capiz Provincial Health Office, from March 2 to 3, active case finding and epidemiological investigation were conducted in following areas –barangays  Takas and Guba in Pontevedra town; barangay Salgan and Balighot in Maayon town; and barangay Balucuan in municipality of Dao.

This activity was spearheaded by Med Tech III  Leo C. Biclar;  Disease Surveillance Officer Mark Anthony B. Blanco, along with the CESRU Team and with the active support of the Disease Surveillance coordinators, barangay health workers, midwives, and nurses of the respective municipalities.

Provincial Health Officer ll Ramon Lex T. Nolasco earlier stressed the need to immediately trace HFMD cases, prevent its complications, and reduce transmission of infection through health awareness and health education campaigns.

From 60, cases of HFMD in the province rose to 76 as of March 4, based on the record of the Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance Response Unit (CESRU) under the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

HFMD is a viral infection common in children under 10 years of age characterized by fluid-filled blisters appearing on the hands, feet, and mouth with or without fever. It is transmitted through droplets or direct contact with nasal discharges, saliva, feces, and fluid from the rashes of an infected individual.

Nolasco also appealed to all Capiznons to inform their Barangay Health Care Workers or the Local Health Offices if their children experience symptoms of HFMD.
