CAPIZ — The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) has reported alarming road accident statistics for 2025, raising serious concerns over public safety in the province.
In a local radio interview, CPPO spokesperson Police Captain Merry Chris Dela Cruz said a total of 1,682 road accidents were recorded from January to December 2025.
The incidents were classified into three categories based on severity. Cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide accounted for 5 fatalities, highlighting the deadly consequences of negligent driving. Meanwhile, 680 cases involved reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries, leaving numerous individuals hurt in road-related incidents.
Another 967 cases were attributed to reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, underscoring the extensive impact of road accidents on both public infrastructure and private assets.
Data further showed that Roxas City recorded the highest number of accidents in the province, with 494 incidents, a figure that authorities said is concerning given the city’s dense population and heavy traffic volume.
Captain Dela Cruz said the CPPO is intensifying efforts to address the rising number of road accidents through stricter enforcement of traffic laws, regular checkpoints, and increased police patrols across the province. He emphasized that these measures are intended not only to penalize violators but also to educate motorists on responsible driving.
“We need community collaboration to address this pressing issue. Every driver must recognize their role in ensuring road safety,” Dela Cruz said.
The CPPO expressed hope that heightened public awareness and stronger enforcement of traffic regulations will lead to a significant reduction in road accidents, ultimately saving lives and ensuring safer roads for all Capizeños./PN
