ILOILO City – Cases have been filed against individuals who figured in three indiscriminate firing incidents in Western Visayas during the holiday season.
“Three cases of indiscriminate firing were noted, and appropriate complaints have been filed against those responsible,” Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Brigadier General Josefino Ligan said during the regular flag-raising ceremony at the regional headquarters here on Monday, January 5.
The incidents involved a police officer in Estancia, Iloilo and two civilians in Pavia and Sta. Barbara towns, all were arrested.
The willful and indiscriminate discharge of a firearm carries a penalty of up to six months imprisonment, cancellation of license or permit, and perpetual disqualification from being granted any firearm license or permit.
Meanwhile, Ligan said there were no major incidents recorded in the region, a feat he attributed to the collective efforts of partner agencies, local government units, force multipliers, and law enforcement agencies.
He also took pride in the almost 70 percent reduction in firecracker-related incidents, with 70 cases recorded from Dec. 16 until 6 a.m. on Monday. (PNA)
