ROXAS City – A total of 19,665 bags (983 metric tons) of rice has been shipped from the National Food Authority (NFA) in Capiz province to Tacloban City.
They included 12,567 bags of imported rice and 7,098 bags of local rice, according to Provincial Manager Oliver Cambas.
“This was to augment the depleting stocks of rice in Tacloban for the consumption of the population,” he said.
The NFA-Capiz was also augmenting the rice supply of several other local governments.
But Cambas assured Capisnons that the province has sufficient supply of rice and will not experience any shortage.
Capiz was one of the huge rice-producing provinces in Western Visayas, with an approximate production of 21,000 metric tons in 2016, he said.
Meanwhile Cambas urged rice farmers to continue selling produce to the NFA.
He assured the agency has sufficient funds for its palay procurement program. (PIA/PN)
