CAPIZ — The Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has raised a Blue Alert and urged residents to take immediate precautionary measures as the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), intensified by Super Typhoon “Inday,” threatens the province with heavy rains and possible flooding.
The advisory is particularly directed at residents living in landslide-prone areas and low-lying coastal communities, which are considered highly vulnerable to the effects of the prevailing weather disturbance.
In a radio interview, PDRRMO head Atty. Sheila Artillero stressed the importance of household preparedness, saying advance planning can significantly reduce risks during emergencies.
Artillero encouraged families to prepare emergency response plans, assemble disaster supply kits, and ensure that every household member understands their role during emergencies.
She also urged parents to educate their children on the proper actions to take during disasters to help them respond calmly and safely in times of crisis.
As part of the province’s preparedness measures, the PDRRMO has activated its Blue Alert Status, placing disaster response personnel on heightened readiness while closely monitoring weather conditions and areas vulnerable to flooding. Alert notifications have also been activated for concerned agencies involved in disaster response and management.
Artillero said the office remains on standby to respond to any weather-related incidents that may arise due to the effects of Super Typhoon “Inday” and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
As a precautionary measure, eight local government units in Capiz have suspended classes at all levels. These include the municipalities of Pontevedra, Panay, Dumarao, Dao, Mambusao, Sapian, Ivisan, and Cuartero.
Artillero called on residents to remain vigilant, closely monitor official weather bulletins and advisories, and cooperate with local authorities to minimize the potential impact of the storm.
