MANILA — Filipino-American star Jordan Clarkson will remain with reigning NBA champion New York Knicks after agreeing to a one-year, $3.9-million contract, ensuring that the first Filipino to win an NBA title will be part of the franchise’s championship defense next season.

ESPN reported that Clarkson reached the agreement with the Knicks, with the deal confirmed by Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh.

Clarkson played an important role in New York’s championship-winning campaign, helping the Knicks capture the NBA crown after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals.

The title victory etched Clarkson’s name in history as the first Filipino to win an NBA championship, adding another milestone to an already distinguished professional career.

Known for proudly embracing his Filipino heritage, Clarkson has represented Gilas Pilipinas in international competitions and remains one of the country’s most celebrated basketball personalities.

His return gives the Knicks another proven scorer and veteran playmaker as the franchise begins its bid to defend the NBA championship, while Clarkson looks to build on a historic season that further strengthened his legacy in Philippine basketball.

In other NBA transactions, the Golden State Warriors bolstered their frontcourt after signing big man Charles Bassey to a one-year contract.

The Boston Celtics, meanwhile, parted ways with veteran guard Dalano Banton, opening a roster spot for future offseason moves./PN
