OLYMPIC gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his girlfriend, singer-influencer Chloe San Jose, said they don’t need their respective families’ blessing to get married as they revealed that they are currently in a live-in setup and are talking about marriage.

The couple shared their decision during a recent guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda ” after they were asked how important it is for them to receive their families’ blessing once they decide to walk down the aisle.

“No,” said the pair in chorus, with Yulo continuing, “As long as tayong dalawa nagkakaintindihan [ referring to San Jose].”

The couple has been living together since 2023.

San Jose explained that it would get more “complicated” if they even considered asking for a blessing.

“I feel like it would get complicated kapag there are too many people getting involved,” she said. “If you’re in the right circle, they wouldn’t make you feel that way. It’s a safe space po kasi. I feel like that’s what we have now.”

Yulo shared that he had already been planning to buy San Jose an engagement ring but that he failed to buy one until the latter found out about a ring reservation through an email notification.

While San Jose is on good terms with her family in Australia, her and Yulo’s relationship made headlines in 2024 after the latter’s mother, Angelica Yulo, accused the singer-influencer of driving a wedge between the Olympic gold medalist and his family.

Yulo is still estranged from his parents but continues to spend time with his siblings Jorielgel, Eldrew and Elaiza.

Meanwhile, Angelica recently made headlines after she earned a bachelor’s degree in office administration from the Philippine Christian University. (Jessica Ann Evangelista © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
