BACOLOD City – Athletes from this city who won in the 2017 Palarong Negros Island Region will get cash incentives from the local government.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia cannot yet determine how much as of Tuesday but assured that they will be given incentives.
He said the city government also considers taking them to a motorcade from the public plaza, going across the metro and ending at the Bacolod City Government Center.
“[The motorcade] should end with a program that will recognize them and where we give them the cash incentives,” said Leonardia.
Executive Assistant Moises dela Cruz, however, said they still cannot determine the date for these plans right now.
Leonardia said they will make an announcement when they have identified how much the cash incentives would be.
Dela Cruz said the local government was still waiting for a copy of the final and official list of Palarong Negros Island Region winners from the Department of Education regional office.
The list is a requirement for the release of cash incentives, he said.
Bacolod was the overall champion in the regional games in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental from Feb. 24 to March 1. It garnered a total of 327 medals: 156 gold, 94 silver and 77 bronze.
In the para-games, the capital city of Negros Occidental also got 17 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze medals.
“The athletes brought pride and honor to our city, and it is just appropriate to reward them,” Councilor Caesar Distrito said in a resolution that the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved on March 1./PN
