BACOLOD City – A special voter registration for girls and women will be held today in observance of the Women’s Month.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is holding the registration in three host areas from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
City Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia clarified that they may accommodate male registrants but will give priority to the females.
The special voter registration is a nationwide initiative of the Comelec, Sia said, citing a commission resolution.
Aside from the regular registrants, the Comelec will also accommodate would-be voters in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).
Regular registrants must present two valid identification cards, preferably government-issued ones indicating their address, while those aged 14 to 19 must bring an original copy of their birth certificate.
Barangay Estefania will host the registration site for the east barangays Granada, Alangilan, Villamonte, Montevista, and Vista Alegre.
The Barangay Mandalagan site will accommodate registrants from north barangays Bata, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Banago.
Sia said the Comelec asked the host barangays to provide free transportation assistance to girls and women wanting to register.
The Comelec already conducted a satellite registration for the south barangays Sum-ag, Tangub, Mansilingan, Alijis, and Taculing.
Meanwhile Negros Occidental High School will host the SK registration for would-be voters aged 14 to 17, Sia disclosed.
Sia clarified that the girls may register in other sites, wherever is convenient to them.
Regular registration goes on at the Comelec office at the BAYS Center on San Juan Street from Monday to Friday, while satellite registrations are held on Saturdays and holidays.
But today there will be no registration at the Comelec office. Personnel and machines were deployed to the identified special registration sites./PN
