ILOILO City – A cashier and a customer tried to steal grocery items from SM Hypermarket in Barangay Fatima, Jaro district, a police report showed.
Cashier Regine Agustino and the customer, Reynel Verayo, were detained at the Jaro police station.
Agustino of Barangay Ma. Cristina, Jaro allegedly connived with Agustino of Barangay Poblacion, Jordan, Guimaras – a fellow tenant in a boardinghouse in the district – in trying to steal grocery items worth P1,495.66, the police report stated.
Verayo brought several grocery items to Counter 9 where Agustino was serving at around 11:43 a.m. on June 8, investigation showed.
Verayo paid Agustino for only three items worth P125. After which, Agustino placed the grocery items inside two plastic bags.
Suspicious, security guard John Sangco told the police he stopped Verayo when the latter about to leave the establishment.
Sangco asked for his receipt. Verayo presented one indicating he paid for only three items when he was taking with him two plastic bags full of items, stated the police report.
Contained in the plastic bags were:

* 2 kilograms of SMG RC jasmine rice – P138.41
* Nutmeg Papier slippers – P89.75
The management of SM Hypermarket has verified the grocery items were from their shelves.
