BACOLOD City – Councilor Wilson Gamboa said he will propose a resolution calling on the cemetery regulatory board to convene.

Gamboa said he will file the resolution during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) this week.

If the resolution is approved, Gamboa hopes the board can convene by Nov. 10.

He said the board must make recommendations regarding the status of city-owned cemeteries in barangays Granada and Handumanan, especially the North Public Cemetery, commonly called the Burgos Cemetery.

This was after the City Health Office (CHO) suggested to the SP that the cemetery be closed for rehabilitation.

CHO’s suggestion was based on its sanitary inspection conducted on Nov. 2 in response to the complaints that the General Services Office (GSO) received.

CHO findings showed that the cemetery was already “full” and can no longer cater to more interments.

Gamboa said his proposal will help address the issues the CHO presented.

On June 17, the SP approved an ordinance creating the board.

It comprises the city mayor as chairperson, city health officer as vice chairperson, and the chairpersons of the SP committees on public works and health, GSO head, city planning and development office coordinator, city engineer, and representatives from the Liga ng mga Barangay as members./PN
