BACOLOD City – Always consult your member-consumers.
This was the advice that Vicente Petierre III, legal counsel of the Social Action Center (SAC) of the Diocese of Bacolod, wanted to relay to the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).
On Nov. 3, Ceneco conducted a presentation before several power advocate groups at the Bishop’s Place in the city.
The presentation was led by Ceneco president Roy Cordova and Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr.
Technical workers of Ceneco also attended.
The presentation – which was initiated by SAC – aims to shed light on Ceneco’s P232-million unpaid contract quantity with the KEPCO Salcon Power Corp, which has sparked issues after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) dispensed an order allowing the electric cooperative to source the payment from its member-consumers.
The order authorized Ceneco to collect from its member-consumers an additional monthly fee of P.0817 per kilowatt-hour for 50 months.
SAC challenged the order by filing a motion for reconsideration before the ERC on Oct. 4.
Ceneco’s balance with KEPCO Salcon is from the 24 megawatt power supply that was supposed to be used for the period July 26, 2011 to Nov. 25, 2013.
Petierre said Ceneco must seek advice from its member-consumers, especially those who are members of power groups, before entering a contract so that “the cooperative may not have this kind of problem.”
This can be done by providing the member-consumers a draft of a contract, Petierre added.
Cordova reiterated that Ceneco Board of Directors passed a resolution suspending the collection pending action on the motion for reconsideration lodged before the ERC./PN
