Ceneco to consumers: Shun fake collectors

BACOLOD City – Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) warned member-consumers it had not deployed field collectors to collect bill payments.

Ceneco Member-Consumer Integrated Services Division (MCISD) chief Roel Venus said he received information from the cooperative’s Talisay Field Office about individuals claiming to be Ceneco employees and collecting bill payments.

A member-consumer in Talisay City, Negros Occidental complained on Dec. 3 that a man collected from him P2,000 as payment for his monthly electric bill.

According to Venus, the victim did not refuse to pay the man claiming to be a Ceneco collector.

The man reportedly threatened consumers he would have their electricity connection cut off if they did not pay upfront.

Venus said Ceneco had not tasked any personnel to collect payments.

He explained that the member-consumers must pay their monthly bills at the Ceneco Main Office, Ceneco Field Offices, and accredited payment centers only./PN
