CENTERPHIL Montessori Silver Knights advanced to the 2017 Iloilo Schools Sports Association (ISSA) quarterfinals after trouncing John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University Dolphins 87-35 at the Iloilo Sports Complex gym.
Lester Valn Paraico led the way with 20 points. Ian Gasacao and Patrick John Gain added 11 markers apiece while Jedrick Tigres contributed 10 points for Silver Knights.
Silver Knights had a strong start against Dolphins with Paraico unloading consecutive triples and Gasacao dominating inside for an early 20-point lead, which later went up to as high as 52 points.
CenterPhil topped the ISSA Classification B round and moved to the quarters where it will face Sun Yat Sen High School 3 p.m. today at the Western Institute of Technology gym.
Before entering the quarterfinals, Silver Knights scored lopsided victories over Santa Isabel International School (103-41), Iloilo Scholastic Academy (97-44) and Central Philippine University Golden Lions (83-55).
“We are still far from where we desire to be – to win the championship,” said CenterPhil owner Mark Plagata Palabrica. “The team will continue to work hard to surpass our next opponents.”
In other sports, Grade 5 CenterPhil student Alexandria Palabrica captured the gold in the ISSA chess tournament after defeating her opponent from Iloilo Scholastic Academy in just two minutes./PN
