ILONGGO center Ian Gasacao will continue his high school basketball career in Manila, CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights owner Mark Plagata Palabrica disclosed.
“I am glad that his hard work has paid off,” Palabrica told Panay News on Sunday, referring to Gasacao’s steering of Silver Knights to second place in the Breakdown Basketball Battle of Champions.
Palabrica refused to disclose the Iloilo City native’s school destination yet.
“After noong Breakdown Basketball, there were a number of schools approaching us, and we chose to commit to this school, which we cannot divulge yet,” he said.
“Iyong school na iyon ang napili namin among doon sa mga lumapit sa amin because doon masisiguro ko na Ian will be well taken care of, not just with his basketball career but also with his studies,” he added.
The 6-foot-3 Gasacao was impressive with his performance for Silver Knights that he was adjudged the Best Rebounder in the weeklong tournament and became part of the Mythical Selection team.
Palabrica said they joined the tournament to give their players “learning experience” and, particularly their senior high school players, exposure to talent scouts and recruiters.
“And with Gasacao heading into a Manila-based school, I think we have achieved our purpose here,” he added. “Our next aim is to participate again and probably improve on our second-place finish.”
Silver Knights fell short on its Cinderella campaign in the Under 17 Breakdown Basketball following a 79-60 loss to Xavier University National Capital Region in the finals at the Jacinto Tiu Sports Center in Xavier School in Quezon City./PN
