MANILA – Ceres-Negros F.C. had a rousing start to its 2020 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup after a 4-0 manhandling against Svay Rieng F.C. of Cambodia at the Rizal Memorial Stadium here last night.

Bienvenido Marañon fired two goals, while Takashi Odawara and Joshua Grommen added a conversion each for the Busmen to activate early the lead in Group G with three points.

Ceres-Negros quickly surged to a 1-0 edge after a bottom corner hit from Odawara at the 12th minute. It was quickly doubled two minutes later with Grommen converting from a cross.

The Cambodians had its clear chance to net its first goal of the game, but a free kick by Brazilian Thiago Dos Santos in the 24th minute mark was easily defended by Busmen’s keeper Roland Muller.

The Busmen widened the lead further in the second half with Marañon netting his first goal at the 55th minute from close range before the Spanish striker completed a brace at the 70th.

Meanwhile, Kaya Futbol Club Iloilo will unveil its new roster when it begins its group stage campaign against Shan United of Myanmar this afternoon at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

Among the new additions for Kaya Iloilo were Carlyle Mitchell (Trinidad & Tobago), Daizo Horikoshi (Japan), Takumi Uesato (Japan), and Filipinos Roberto Corsame and Marco Casambre.

Cebuano Oliver Colina, meanwhile, took over the coaching chores for the Iloilo City-based football club from Noel Marcaida, while Rolando Cabañiero was named new goal keeping coach.

“I have a strong feeling that we’ll be a better club — better than we were in the past few years,” said Kaya Iloilo assistant coach Yu Hoshide. “This group hasn’t played this level of competition yet. But now we have a chance to show what we’ve been doing in training.”

The Kaya Iloilo-Shan United match is slated at five in the afternoon (Manila time) and will be aired live on Fox Sports 2./PN
