
CEBUANA actress Chai Fonacier is now abroad shooting the psychological thriller film “Nocebo” alongside Hollywood stars Eva Green and Mark Strong.
According to Film Development Council of the Philippines chairwoman Liza Dino-Seguerra, Nocebo is the Philippines’ first co-production project with Ireland.
Liza shared the news on her Facebook page on Feb.26. She wrote, “I never thought this day would happen—The Philippines as co-financier of major international projects.”
In the film, Chai plays the role of a Pinay caregiver who uses traditional folk healing to reveal a horrifying truth behind a fashion designer’s (Eva Green) mysterious illness that puzzles her doctors and frustrates her husband (Mark Strong). The film is produced by Emily Leo of Wild Swim Films and Brunella Cocchiglia of Lovely Productions, along with Filipino co-producers Bianca Balbuena and Bradley Liew of Epic Media which is the production studio behind award-winning films like Fan Girl, Babae at Baril, Gusto Kita With All My Hypothalamus, Engkwentro, and Ang Panahon ng Halimaw.
Chai Fonacier was part of local films like Respeto, Born Beautiful, Sakaling Maging Tayo, and 2016’s Patay na si Hesus where she won Best Supporting Actress at the Luna Awards of the Film Academy of the Philippines. In 2015, she also won Best Supporting Actress for the film Miss Bulalacao, which was part of the 2015 Cinema One Originals film festival.(Push)
