ILOILO City – The holidays won’t be merry for the family of a man who drowned in the waters of Sto. Niño Norte, a coastal village in Arevalo district.

On Dec. 18, seven days before Christmas, 56-year-old Antonio Abainsa of Barangay North Baluarte, Molo district died.

A drunken Abainsa took a swim, family members and friends said, and they later saw him gesturing for help.

They tried to rescue him but it was too late; Abainsa disappeared in the waters, police said.

Hours after, Abainsa’s body was found floating./PN
