BACOLOD City – AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse is increasing its slaughter and delivery charges.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), through a resolution, has allowed the operator of the city abattoir to implement a 10-percent fee increase.
In January AVM Bernardo wrote the city government asking for an authority to raise its fees.
Slaughter and delivery fees were unchanged since the abattoir started operating on Aug. 16, 2008 despite the “interminable” rise in wages and prices of electricity and petroleum products, said Plant Manager Glorydee Cometa.
The city government and AVM Bernardo entered into an agreement on Feb. 7, 2007 to put up the slaughterhouse under a build-operate-transfer scheme.
Section 15, Article IV of their memorandum of agreement set the initial slaughter and delivery rates, while Section 16 allows AVM to recommend the adjustment of fees.
Under Section 15, AVM is “allowed to charge a slaughter fee for hogs, goats and other large animals of P2.50 per kilogram (kg) and P0.25 per kg for the delivery fee.”
AVM is “allowed to recommend the adjustment of slaughter and delivery fees provided that any increase shall not be more than 10 percent compounded and shall be reasonable and justified by the unavoidable increase in the actual cost of operation and only upon the approval and concurrence of the SP,” stated Section 16.
Cometa said the fee increases will take effect as soon as AVM Bernardo receives a copy of the SP resolution./PN
