BACOLOD City – Traffic rules must be strictly implemented in the city, according to Councilor Caesar Distrito.
Distrito said he will author a resolution urging the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), the Land Transportation Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to intensify the enforcement of traffic rules after a road accident killed four persons in Barangay Atipuluan, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Nov. 30.
Romulo Espinosa and wife Josephine, their daughter Christine Sarsia and their grandson John Vincent were pronounced “dead on arrival” at the Bago City District Hospital, a police report showed.
They were on board a Hyundai Eon urban car when a 10-wheeler truck loaded with harvested sugarcanes crashed against them.
According to Distrito, the accident was an “eye opener.”
Distrito said he plans to present his resolution before the Sangguniang Panlungsod during its regular session on Monday.
But even before that, the councilor said he already coordinated with BTAO head Superintendent Luisito Acebuche to strictly implement the ordinance banning overloaded trucks in the city especially that it’s the milling season.
“An overloaded truck is dangerous to pedestrians,” Distrito stressed.
Distrito added that weighbridges used to determine overloaded trucks must be repaired since most of them are already dysfunctional.
