BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) wants to boost tourism in the city by adopting the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) “bring home a friend” program.
The DOT recently launched the program, which is a referral incentive platform that aims to tap the network of Filipinos living abroad to invite their foreign friends to visit the Philippines.
The DOT believes that the program will help “to close the year strongly for the tourism industry in terms of visitor arrivals and carry the momentum into the coming year.”
This week, the SP approved a resolution urging City Tourism Office head Ma. Elma Gerasmo to adopt and promote the program.
The resolution cited a 2015 report of the Department of Foreign Affairs showing that there are 9.1 million overseas Filipinos, with more than three million in the United States of America and more than two million in the Middle East.
The SP believed that the program will boost foreign visits in Bacolod and thus generate income and job opportunities./PN
