ILOILO City – Iloilo City National High School and Sta. Barbara formalized their entry into the 2017 Isuzu 17-U Girls Volleyball League quarterfinals with victories on Thursday at the Iloilo Doctors College Gymnasium.
Iloilo City National High School banked on AJ Aposaga and Novelyn Gerona to score a 25-19, 24-26, 26-24 victory over the University of San Agustin High School (2-2) and claim the top spot in Bracket B with a perfect 4-0 win-loss record.
The Iloilo City National High School victory also formalized Sta. Barbara’s No. 2 seed in the bracket with a 3-1 win-loss mark. The University of San Agustin ended at third after winning its last match against Dingle (25-9, 25-17).
Meanwhile, Ramon Avaceña National High School (2-1) snatched the second seed in Bracket A following a 16-25, 25-19, 25-16 come-from-behind win over Ateneo de Iloilo (1-2). Bacolod’s St. John Institute (Hua Ming) owns the top seed in the bracket at 3-0.
In Bracket C action, La Paz National High School captured the No. 2 spot in the group with a 25-8, 25-13 sweep over Barangay Block 17. The Central Philippine University Golden Lions owns the top-spot in the bracket with a 4-0 mark.
In the shortened Bracket D, Bacolod Tay Tung High School holds the No. 1 seed with a 2-0 win-loss record, while Iloilo National High School advanced as the group’s No. 2 ranked team at 1-1.
Action resumes today with the quarterfinals at the Ateneo de Iloilo Gym, with Hua Ming facing La Paz National High School, Iloilo City National High School against Iloilo National High School, CPU versus Ramon Avaceña National High School and Tay Tung duking it out with Sta. Barbara./PN
