BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) requested for additional police personnel in the city.
Last week, the SP approved a resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito asking Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa and Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag to deploy more personnel under the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
The city has a population of about 600,000 but there are only about 650 police officers assigned at the BCPO, making a 1:1000 police-to-individual ratio, the resolution said.
It added that the ratio is “very inadequate,” in as much as city security is concerned, especially during night time.
The resolution also said the city “badly needs” additional police officers in view of the Christmas holiday season.
Additional police personnel will be a crime deterrent, the resolution added.
Earlier, Mayor Evelio Leonardia also requested PRO-6 for additional police force in the city.
In response, Binag had deployed 100 police personnel under the BCPO.
But the resolution said this is not enough, especially that people from other cities and towns come to the Bacolod every day to either work or study, among others.
The resolution added that additional police officers will help the city maintain its being one of the “most livable city” in the country./PN
