ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) has served more than 10,000 workers who were hired here and abroad during the first seven months this year.
PESO, through job fairs and referrals, was able to employ or deploy some 10,760 jobseekers for both local and overseas jobs as of August 2016 compared to 4,941 applicants in August 2015.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog stressed the increasing employment rate manifested the city government’s successful initiatives and efforts in providing access and delivering more opportunities to the Ilonggos.
The city’s employment rate soared to 92 percent in April as a result of regular conduct of job fairs, according to data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-6).
Mabilog encouraged more jobseekers to register for skills matching to available work opportunities at PESO at fifth floor of city hall.
PESO chief Ma. Elena A.C. Benitez said job fairs addressed employment needs of the people which are significant in combating criminality and poverty.
For four straight years, Iloilo City topped the list in Western Visayas by garnering 31.70 percent or 75,503 accomplishment rate vis-à-vis its targeted 238,211 working population from Oct. 2010 to May 31, 2016 of the National Skills Registry Program (NSRP) of DOLE-6.
NSRP is a database on available manpower and their corresponding expertise which serves as easy guide for companies in looking for competent and skilled human resources.
Mabilog and Benitez recently received recognitions from DOLE-6 acting regional director Salome O. Siaton. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
