BACOLOD City – The fatality rate of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here is about 21 percent, according to Dr. Julius Drilon, medical director.
In an interview over DYHB RMN-Bacolod over the weekend, Drilon said most of the fatalities were between 65 to 71 years old. He, however, did not give figures.
The case fatality rate, according to the World Health Organization, is the proportion of individuals diagnosed with a disease who die from that disease and is therefore a measure of severity among detected cases.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positivity rate of the samples submitted at their molecular laboratory is also running at 26 percent, although Drilon pointed out that the positivity rate peaked at 63 percent in the past few months.
Most of the samples sent to them were those belonging to the 35-45 year-old age group, or those tagged under the working class.
With the threat of the Delta variant of the virus causing COVID-19, Drilon said he won’t be surprised if Bacolod City or the province itself records their first cases as travel to Panay Island remained.
Previously, leisure travel between Iloilo and Negros Occidental was suspended after Panay experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases blamed on COVID-19 variants Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Theta.
