BACOLOD City – The local government unit here has made physical distancing and wearing of face masks compulsory to stem the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), with violators facing an eight-hour community service and a fine of up to P200.
This developed after Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s approval of an ordinance requiring residents to keep a 1-meter distance and wear face masks in public places.
Councilor Archie Baribar said Leonardia signed the ordinance last week after the city council approved it on the third and final reading.
“It will require a mandatory use of face mask and observance of social distancing in all public places in this city during the emergency caused by COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
According to Baribar, the City Health Office shall supervise the community service in coordination with barangay where the violator resides.
“If a person is not a resident here, the person shall be penalized with a fine of P300,” the councilor said./PN
