SAN JOSE, Antique – A complaint was lodged against the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) chief before the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas in Iloilo City.
Save Antique Movement president Virgilio Sanchez and Board of Directors member Roy Bandiola filed criminal and administrative charges against PENRO chief Ruel De Los Reyes.
De Los Reyes was accused of graft and corruption in implementing a flood control construction project in Barangay Mablad, Barbaza, Antique.
The Gabion-type flood control project had a budget of P3,198,400 for its 120-day construction from August to December 2014.
However, Sanchez said only 50 percent of the project was completed this year.
This prompted the barangay council of Mablad to pass a resolution in March requesting the PENRO to fast-track the construction.
In July, residents of Barangay Mablad expressed their disappointment in PENRO’s alleged inaction.
“The officials of Barangay Mablad have been following up the request but they (PENRO) did not respond,” said Sanchez.
For his part, De Los Reyes created a body to investigate the matter.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan also conducted its investigation./PN
