BACOLOD City – The chairman of the committee on laws and transportation in the Sangguniang Panlungsod here will conduct a public hearing on the proposed ordinance condoning business tax penalties.
According to Councilor Dindo Ramos, author of the proposed ordinance passed on first reading last week, several small businesses and tricycle and jeepney operators stopped operating due to quarantine restrictions enforced to curb the spread of coronavirus disease.
Many of them also failed to pay their business taxes.
Now they want to resume operations, according to Ramos, but the penalties, surcharges and interests were a burden.
Ramos said he wanted to hear the sentiments of the business community.
He also authored City Ordinance 936 which condones the penalties, surcharges and interest for the real property tax./PN
