ILOILO City – A male infant was left yesterday outside a house’s gate in Zone 8, Barangay Calumpang, Molo district, police said.

The infant was taken by the Molo police station’s Women and Children Protection Desk to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao for a checkup.

A local identified only as “Ayeng” saw a woman and a male trisikad driver leave the baby at around 10 a.m., said the police.

The infant, whose age remains undetermined as of this writing, was wrapped in a towel and plastic bag, police said.

Senior Inspector Marlon Valencia, chief of the Molo police station, said Ayeng told them the woman, who was clad in a dress and with a black malong covering her face, and the trisikad driver looked like a young couple.

One of them said, “Throw that already. It stinks,” so Ayeng assumed it was garbage, police said.

But Ayeng heard a cry from what the two people left and discovered there was an infant.

He opened the plastic bag to let the baby breathe and sought assistance from the Molo police.

As of this writing, police were still trying to identify who left the baby there. (Carolyn Jane Abello, trainee reporter/PN)
