ILOILO City – Seven vandalism suspects were arrested at VML Subdivision, Barangay North Fundidor, Molo district.
Of the seven, four were minors (three 17-year-old lads and one 16-year-old). They were caught scribbling graffiti around 1 a.m. on Saturday.
Vandalism is defined as willful acts that damage or deface the property belonging to another person or to the public.
The three other suspects were of legal age and residents of Jaro district – Eric Isidro, 18, of Barangay Tabuc Suba; Troysome Quinones, 21, of Barangay San Isidro; and Vince Cortejo, 20, of Barangay Dungon B.
The suspects claimed what they were doing was art, police said.
The four minors were referred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. They were from Baranagy San Isidro, Jaro; Barangay Veterans Village, City Proper; Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao district; and Barangay Benedicto, Jaro.
All the seven face charges for violating a city ordinance that prohibits the writing, drawing, painting, marking or inscribing on any public property or private property any word, slogan, caricature, drawing, mark or, affixing, posting up or displaying on any public property or private property any advertisement, bill or notice, without the consent of the owner.
Violators shall be penalized through community service.
If the violator is a minor, the ordinance said, the civil liability shall be shouldered by the parents./PN
