ILOILO City – Two separate police operations resulted to the arrest of two women suspected of soliciting bets for the illegal numbers game “bookies.”

In Barangay Poblacion, Banate the 45-year-old Joana Deocampo was caught around 11 a.m. on Nov. 23.

Banate policemen recovered from Deocampo “bookies” paraphernalia and P234 cash.

Around 2:20 p.m. that same day but in Dingle down, cops spotted a woman soliciting bets also for “bookies” at the town public market.

The 44-year-old Avelina Tanguan of Barangay Caguyuman, Dingle was taken to the municipal police station.

Police officers recovered from Tanguan bet slips and money.

The two women face separate charges for violation of Republic Act 9287 (an Act increasing the penalties for illegal numbers games, amending certain provisions of Presidential Decree No. 1602, and for other purposes).

If found guilty by the court for being collectors or agents (cabo, cobrador, coriador or variants thereof), the two suspect face the penalty of imprisonment from eight years and one day to 10 years./PN
