ILOILO City – The Department of Agriculture (DA) held a three-day consultative workshop on the crafting of operations manual and guidelines for the second phase implementation of DA-KOICA’s (Department of Agriculture- Korea International Cooperation Agency) Panay Island Upland Sustainable Rural Development Project on Nov. 25 at the Eon Centennial Plaza Hotel, Jalandoni Street, Iloilo City.

The $6.5 million-project fund from the Korean government, with the assistance of the DA and the local government unit, will finance the projects strongly needed by the resident beneficiaries of the eight upland barangays across the provinces of Iloilo, Antique and Capiz.

According to Regional Technical Director for Operations Manuel Olanday, this developmental endeavor will lead to success with the help and support of the residents in the community. There will also a revisitation of the development of the project objectives and ideas to make it more effective to the residents.

Project Manager Dr. Lee Sangeum showed enthusiasm and optimism that the outcome of the workshop, which was attended by the members of Project Management Office, Technical Working Group, and Provincial Management Team, will pave the way to more developmental endeavors.

Suggested projects were also in the form of improvement, livestock, compost production, transportation, vegetable nursery facility, rice drying facility and multi-purpose utilization of machines for ridge farming./PN
