Daily new COVID cases in NegOcc plateau

BACOLOD City – Daily new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were plateauing, data from the Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

Between March 15 and Aug. 8, the province’s daily new cases peaked at 297 in April, the PHO report showed.

From then on, the cases continued to spike until July 1 when the number of new cases started to decline and eventually plateau from July 10 until Aug. 8 (new cases averaged to two digits only).

As of Aug. 8, Bago City had the most number of active COVID-19 cases in the province with 95, followed by La Carlota City with 82 and La Castellana with 69.

Four local government units in the province, meanwhile, showed only single-digit active cases. They were Candoni with eight, Don Salvador Benedicto and San Enrique with seven each, and Toboso with six active cases.

Meanwhile, the case fatality rate in Negros Occidental was at 2.56 percent.

The COVID-19 status of the province also showed that it currently has a 92 percent recovery rate. Symptomatic prevalence, meanwhile, was at 25 percent, while asymptomatic is at 75 percent./PN
