MANILA – Davao-San Miguel Aguilas Football Club are hoping to score its maiden win in the 2017 Philippine Football League (PFL) with the acquisition of Philippine Azkals mainstays Phil and James Younghusband.
The Davao-San Miguel are currently at seventh place in the standings with five points on five draws and six losses, and are likely to have a hard time reaching the playoffs round.
However, Davao-San Miguel chairman Jefferson Cheng is optimistic that the Younghusbands will inject a winning mentality on the youth-dominated football team.
“We are happy to welcome Phil and James into our club. Both are quality players and fine gentlemen who will blend well into our club and represent Davao Aguilas with utmost professionalism,” said Cheng in a press conference the other night.
He added: “Our fans and supporters are equally excited about our new signings. I am sure they will contribute not only to Davao Aguilas, but also help us succeed in our vision to promote and advance Philippine football.”
The Younghusbands are just two of Davao-San Miguel’s new recruits after signing Simone Rota, Jason de Jong and Jorrel Aristorenas from Ceres-Negros, and Matthew Hartmann and Nick O’ Donnell from Global Cebu.
The Younghusbands will be making their debut with Davao-San Miguel when the club plays host to the streaking Stallion-Laguna Football Club on Sunday at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex./PN
