MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima is poised to file a petition for a writ of amparo against President Rodrigo Duterte “probably next week.”
Once the Supreme Court grants the petition, Duterte would be directed to stop issuing threats and statements against her, de Lima explained on Tuesday to reporters.
“(The Writ of Amparo) is actually availed of by victims or family of victims of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) and forced disappearances. The EJKs are all over this country. And, then ‘yung threat niya sa akin. That’s a protection of my right to life and security under the Constitution,” she added.
The senator from Bicol said that the President’s “grave” threat against her life and security is “very serious.”
On Jan. 9, Duterte, in a speech before the newly appointed government officials in Malacañang, said he has never ordered the former Justice secretary or anyone be killed.
Duterte has also depicted her as the biggest narco-politician in the country.
“That’s disturbing to me. This is doubly disturbing to me personally… Why all of a sudden babanggitin ako tungkol sa patayan?” de Lima said.
She also said she would hold Duterte responsible if something happens to her.
According to her, the same petition will be filed against Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, solicitor general Jose Calida and the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption./PN
