ILOILO City – A resident of Barangay San Jose, San Miguel, Iloilo was found dead in the village of Cabolo-an Norte, Oton town.

The body of 48-year-old Gerry Senato was recovered a few meters away from the Gonzales family’s hose around 8 a.m. yesterday.

According to Richard Gonzales, 25, he smelled something really nasty like a dead rotten rat while gathering firewood at the back of their house.

He looked for the foul odor’s origin and discovered Senato’s body.

Gonzales alerted their barangay officials and village watchmen who in turn sought the police’s help.

According to Senato’s brothers Miguel and Rudolfo, Gerry visited a wake of a dead relative in Barangay Cabolo-an Norte and believed their brother got drunk.

Gerry was last seen alive around 3 p.m. on Oct. 14. He was sitting by the roadside in Barangay Cabolo-an Norte.

The brothers believed Gerry likely decided to take a shortcut home but accidentally fell, hit his head on the ground and died. It was raining over the weekend

Police, however, suggested an autopsy to determine Gonzales’ cause of death./PN
