ILOILO City – A fishing boat capsized in the waters of Palawan province. Its three occupants were rescued and brought to this city.

The three were Ads Gubat, the 40-year-old captain of the ill-fated M/L Elena; Iyon Santos, the 42-year-old boat operator; and Zanderkhan Wahab, 18.

According to Harold Cuaresma, officer-in-charge of F/B Geraldave, his boat spotted the three men clinging to the outrigger of their capsized boat and shouting for help, so he rescued them.

From what the Philippine Coast Guard so far gathered, the three men were in that state for two days until Cuaresma’s F/B Geraldave rescued them on Oct. 13.

At the Iloilo coastguard station, Santos said their fishing boat encountered big waves after leaving Narra, Palawan.

The survivors will be transported to Puerto Princesa, Palawan tomorrow.  They are currently under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development./PN
