ILOILO City – The woman found dead in a forested area of Barangay San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras on Aug. 2 has been identified as a resident of Santa Teresa village in the town.
The 23-year-old Emilyn Ganancial was a criminology graduate, said the police.
Mario Ganancial went to the Jordan police station on Saturday to claim that the body was her daughter’s, said Senior Inspector Carl Betansos, municipal police chief.
On Aug. 1 Emilyn told her father she will go to this city to review for her Criminologist Licensure Exam.
On the evening she sent him a text message saying she will attend a birthday party in Antique province. That was the last time they heard from her, Mario told the police.
Betansos said they believed the killer got the victim’s mobile phone.
“We have yet to identify a suspect as of now,” the police officer said on Saturday.
A passerby, 62-year-old Juanito Gange of Barangay Santa Teresa, Jordan, found the body at around 7:30 a.m.
Her shirt was pulled up her torso and her trousers and underwear pulled down her legs. She may have been raped, Betansos earlier said.
The victim also had a severely disfigured face. It was likely hit by a hard object, said the police officer.
“We are still waiting for the autopsy result,” said Betansos.
Investigators recovered a pink handkerchief and a black sock near the victim’s body./PN
