ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. is open to joining the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) of President Rodrigo Duterte.
On Sunday, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez invited the governor to join the ruling party.
“I have an open mind,” said Defensor curtly.
Defensor is currently a member of the Liberal Party. In a previous interview, he said he did not have plans of leaving his party.
On Sunday, he was mum on what could possibly change his mind. But he said he would consult with political colleagues in the province.
Alvarez administered the oath-taking of new PDP-Laban members in Iloilo and Guimaras on Sunday at the Iloilo Convention Center.
He also invited to PDP-Laban Defensor’s son and namesake, Iloilo 3rd District congressman Arthur Jr.
Alvarez acknowledged the importance of having Defensor in the ruling party.
“Siempre, ikaw ‘yung ama ng probinsya. Malaking bagay ‘yun. Mag-uusap kami,” said Alvarez.
The Speaker said his invitation did not carry a specific timeline or deadline.
Governor Defensor is now in his third and final term as governor./PN
