ILOILO City – Half of the million-peso bounty for the neutralization of drug lord Richard Prevendido is being shouldered by the provincial government of Iloilo.
Yesterday, Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. ordered its release to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
“We promised to give P500,000. We leave the decision sa regional commander sang Philippine National Police kon kay sin-o ihatag,” said Defensor yesterday.
Prevendido was shot to death in a shootout with policemen in Barangay Balabago, Jaro district on Sept. 1.
The other half of the bounty will come from the city government of Iloilo.
The PRO-6 itself also added a modest amount, increasing the bounty to P1.1 million.
The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) agreed to give a bounty to whoever could give information leading to the arrest of Western Visayas’ most wanted man early this year after a court issued an arrest warrant against Prevendido for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The drug lord’s neutralization was a joint operation of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), the PRO-6’s Regional Intelligence Division and Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
“We can now heave a sigh a relief,” said Defensor. He expected an improvement in the illegal drug situation of Iloilo city and province.
He commended IPPO director Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba who led the IPPO team in the operation.
