ILOILO City – How knowledgeable are this city’s traffic aides about traffic rules and regulations?
According to Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) chief Robert Foerster, 291 traffic aides will be made to take an examination.
The test will be administered before this month ends, said Foerster, and he himself will prepare the questions.
The city has new ordinances related to traffic, he said.
Foerster said applicants undergo screening before being taken in as TMTRO traffic aides.
The examination would further give his office ideas which areas to further improve in terms of the traffic aides’ knowledge and performance, he explained.
Those who fail the exam may likely undergo retraining, said Foerster.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog plans to overhaul the TMTRO.
“We will look into giving the TMTRO a professional look. This is necessary so it could gain respect among motorists and the general public. The reform can start with the people on the job,” said Mabilog recently.
He ordered a review of TMTRO’s roster of traffic aides.
“Regular training seminars for traffic aides will sharpen their skills in traffic flow management and enforcement. We should keep in mind that traffic aides are our ambassadors to the public,” added Mabilog.
There may also be an age limit for traffic aide.
At present, TMTRO has traffic aides beyond the age of 50, noted Mabilog./PN
