KALIBO, Aklan – Dengue cases in Aklan reached 269 with two deaths from Jan. 1 to May 16, records from the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance and Response Unit showed.
The number was 24-percent lower compared to the 356 cases recorded in the same period in 2016.
All 17 municipalities in the province had dengue cases, including two nearby non-Aklan towns.
Kalibo had the highest number of cases with 56. Numancia followed with 33 and Malinao, 24.
Malay had 20 dengue cases and two deaths — both children, aged 3 and 5 years old.
Banga had 17 cases; New Washington, 16; Makato, 15. Nabas and Batan had 12 cases each; Libacao, 11; Balete and Ibajay, 10 each.
Other municipalities with dengue cases were Tangalan, with nine; Altavas, seven; Lezo, six; Buruanga, five; Madalag, three; and the two non-Aklan towns, three each.
Majority of the cases — 84 — belong to the age group 1 to 10 years old, records showed.
The Provincial Health Office encouraged everyone to suppress the spread of mosquitoes carrying the disease.
It urged the public to habitually follow the 4S strategy: search and destroy breeding places, seek early consultation, self-protection, and say no to indiscriminate fogging. (PIA/PN)
