DENNIS Trillo brought up road safety after his eldest son, Calix Ho, recently survived a serious car accident after falling asleep while driving early in the morning.
In a now-deleted Facebook post on May 25, the actor shared that the crash happened around 5 a.m., which left the vehicle overturned and “a total wreck.”
“Kaninang 5AM, nakatulog habang nagda-drive mag-isa ‘yung panganay ko. Bumangga siya sa island at tumaob ‘yung kotse…total wreck,” he wrote.
Dennis clarified that while the accident caused major damage to the car, no other vehicles or individuals were involved and that his son sustained only minor injuries: “Walang tinamaang kotse o ibang tao; may pasa sa ulo, braso, at maga ang kaliwang kamay.”
Though shaken by the incident and Calix’s injuries, Dennis focused on gratitude, acknowledging that the outcome could have been far worse.
“Hindi lahat ganito kaswerte sa aksidente. Salamat po at gan’un lang ang nangyari,” the actor said.
Dennis also used the experience to remind motorists about the dangers of drowsy driving, stressing that exhaustion should never be ignored when behind the wheel.
“Lesson… pag inaantok, wag piliting mag-drive. Pwedeng mag stop over muna, para mag unat unat o umidlip,” he maintained.
Even after the original post was taken down, screenshots and reuploads quickly circulated online, with many netizens sending prayers and well wishes for Calix’s recovery.
Calix later addressed the incident himself through an Instagram story, sharing how the accident changed his perspective and deepened his appreciation for life.
“Today I realized that life is one of the most precious things we will ever have, yet we sometimes forget its value until something unexpected happens,” he wrote.
“In just a blink, everything can change…but us people and opportunities can also disappear without warning. That’s why I learned we should never take anything for granted whether it’s something big or small. Every second we are alive is a chance to love, grow, forgive, a chance to be better, appreciate the people around us, and praise God,” he maintained.
The young athlete continued by reflecting on life’s uncertainty and the importance of living with gratitude and intention.
“Life is so fragile and unpredictable, and I learned that we should cherish it deeply. Instead of always waiting for ‘someday.’ I learned to value the present, appreciate the small and big things, and live every moment to the fullest because tomorrow is never guaranteed.”
Calix is Dennis’s son with former partner, beauty queen Carlene Aguilar. Earlier this year, they marked a happy milestone when Dennis, together with his wife, actress Jennylyn Mercado, joined Carlene in celebrating Calix’s success at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 88 fencing tournament. Representing the University of the Philippines, Calix claimed the gold medal in the Men’s Epee individual event. (Push Team)
