ILOILO City — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Western Visayas will be the first government agency in the region to implement a four-day workweek under the government’s pilot flexible work arrangement.
The DENR regional office and its attached agencies are shifting to longer weekday hours starting this Monday, January 5.
Under the setup, DENR offices will operate from Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., in line with a nationwide pilot aimed at improving efficiency, cutting energy use, and easing employee travel without disrupting public service delivery.
DENR Region 6’s covered attached agencies include the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).
The four-day workweek scheme will run until March 27, 2026.
“Layunin ng inisyatiba na pahusayin ang operasyon ng DENR, isulong ang environmental sustainability, at gawing mas accessible ang mga serbisyong pampubliko,” said Secretary Raphael Lotilla of DENR.
The regional rollout follows DENR Administrative Order No. 2025-34 and complies with policies issued by the Civil Service Commission, the Commission on Audit, and the Department of Budget and Management.
“It is the policy of the State to ensure a safe and healthful workplace that supports optimal public service performance. It is, therefore, imperative to implement measures that address risk factors affecting employee health, wellness, and productivity, while promoting the efficient use of office resources, including the reduction of energy consumption, in support of sustainable government operations,” stressed DENR Administrative Order No. 2025-34./PN
