ILOILO City – Depressed by his recurring illness, a 49-year-old man in Barangay Bucaya, San Joaquin, Iloilo committed suicide.
He was found hanging from a mango tree, about 20 meters away from their house, with a nylon cord tied around his neck at about 5:30 a.m. yesterday, police said.
Police identified him only as “Pitong.” They refused to disclose his full name at the request of his family.
That they were too financially constrained to sustain his medical needs depressed Pitong, municipal police head Inspector Wilmar Bolivar told Panay News, citing interviews with the immediate family and relatives.
“His relatives also said he looked sleep-deprived for days,” Bolivar said in a phone interview.
Police found no foul play in the incident but said the family may request for an autopsy if they were unconvinced by the findings.
His relatives, police and an emergency response team from the local government removed the body of Pitong from the tree.
The victim was taken to the San Joaquin Mother and Child Hospital where an attending physician pronounced him dead./PN
