BACOLOD City – A vegetable vendor was hacked to death by a man believed to be suffering from a mental illness in Toboso town, Negros Occidental.
Killed was 51-year-old Roberto Peruma of Barangay Hinup-ay, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, police said. He died of multiple hacked wounds on the body.
Toboso municipal police station chief Major Joery Puerto said the horrific attack happened Tuesday afternoon.
Peruma was tending to his customers when he was allegedly hacked by 24-year-old Argie Pasigna without provocation.
Puerto added that the suspect used a machete and he repeatedly hacked Peruma.
Pasigna was later stopped by several residents, although Peruma was already killed on the spot.
The town police chief said the Pasigna nearly mutilated Peruma and the suspect was attempting to chop the victim to bits.
Pasigna’s mother, meanwhile, told police that his son was suffering from a mental illness and was not able to take his medicine at the time of the incident.
Puerto, however, said they will file a murder charge against Pasigna, who was now detained in the lockup cell of the Toboso municipal police station./PN
