Dismissed cop nabbed in Sagay drug bust

BACOLOD City – A dismissed police officer was arrested in a buy-bust operation that yielded around 45 grams of suspected shabu worth an estimated P306,000 in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

The operation, conducted by local police on September 10 at Purok Dol-dol, Barangay Poblacion 2, led to the arrest of a high-value target identified as alias “Tata,” 30, single, and a resident of Purok Rosas de Baybayon, Barangay Old Sagay. She had been dismissed from the police service on October 31, 2023.

According to the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), the suspect handed over a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer in exchange for marked money during the operation.

Confiscated from her possession were additional sachets of suspected shabu, the buy-bust money, a caliber .45 pistol, a magazine, and five rounds of ammunition.

In a statement, PRO-NIR said the operation marks a significant milestone in its continuing campaign against illegal drugs, underscoring its commitment to public safety and peace and order across the region.

The regional police leadership vowed to sustain proactive operations to dismantle drug networks and prevent the spread of illegal substances, stressing its vision of a safer, more secure, and progressive Negros Island Region./PN
